Cooking for a Cause with OzHarvest

Did you know reducing food waste is the most effective thing individuals can do to care for the environment?

Throughout August, September and October, Amity are volunteering with OzHarvest in support of their Cooking for a Cause program.

OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation with its main purpose to “Nourish our Country”. Their mission is to stop food waste, feed people in need and protect the planet by championing the value of food and driving change at all levels of society.

OzHarvest save over 250 tonnes of good food every week! These rescued foods are then delivered straight to local charities with the leftovers being utilised to create nutritious meals for those in need.

Over the next few months, we will be working in teams to cook delicious meals from these rescued ingredients. We will be gaining new skills in the kitchen while learning about the impact of food waste and what we can do to help reduce it.

At the end of the sessions, the individual meals will be packaged ready for OzHarvest’s yellow trucks to deliver to charities.

We look forward to making a direct difference to those in need, utilising fresh food that otherwise would have gone to landfill and gaining knowledge that will help us reduce food wastage in our everyday lives.
